DOT launched WalkNYC, a new pedestrian wayfinding program. The easy-to-use “head up” style maps will feature local landmarks and more. The maps are already being used on Citi Bike stations.
The free-standing signs are installed directly into sidewalks and subway stations and will feature maps showing area streets, major points of interest, travel information, bike lanes, subway stations as well as estimated walking times. The initial installations will be in Chinatown and later will expand to 34th Street and the Garment District as well as Prospect Heights, Crown Heights and Long Island City.
